At this time we would like to invite anyone interested in participating in putting on the festival: with good ideas; hard work; performance pieces or any kind contribution, please contact Sabrina at 557-4339. Also call to island musicians to get your demos to us on time, so start working on them now!! Call Roeland for info 557-4242, or contact any coordinator via our website. Finally we, the people who put this festival on every year, would like to thank you, the music lovers who come every year, for all your support and would like to remind you it is never too late to become involved. Watch for regular updates on the progress being made this year. |
| Here's what some past performers had to say about their Edge of the World Music Festival experience. |
"Edge of the World is more than just a festival. We were received
into a family that celebrates music, culture and lives in harmony
with their land. It was a truly magical experience!" "That was one of the best festivals I've ever played, and I've played many! The hospitality, the food, the wonderful fans .... Please bring me back!!!"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 20,
2009
Edge of the
World Music Festival 2009
We are DANCING AT
THE EDGE
this
year! We envision a warm,
sunny day, festival banners everywhere, friends, laughter, food and
MUSIC. That is happiness, and
next comes dancing at the Tlell Fairgrounds, Haida Gwaii, the Queen
Charlotte Islands, on Friday – Sunday, August 7, 8, 9.
Our Headliners for 2009
are Victoria’s Ballgag n’ Chain Gang, with their own unique
solid, danceable rhythms they call
“Ho Tonk,” drawing on
rock, folk, bluegrass, roots, hip-hop, punk and country;
Shane Phillip,
a one-man
show delivering
primordial pulses on his didgeridoo & other instruments, borrowing
sounds from folk, reggae, & blues but with high-energy dance rhythms;
and Jarimba, a world beat
group who combines the music of West Africa with jazz and Afro-Cuban to
move the spirit of the listener to dance.
Featured
artists this year will include
Random Order’s rock music returning to our festival, the
Tempest Gale Duo with folk
stylings, and John Spearn,
also returning to our festival with pure Canadiana in rootsy voice and
guitar featuring his new song
Haida Gwaii.
Other local and off-island talent will complete our
programme, and we will also feature special events including our
children’s tent, food and local crafts vendors, workshops, and fringe
activities.
The Edge of the
World Music Festival is a family event. Camping is available in a Provincial Park campground across
the street, and other local camping and B&B accommodations are
available.
